Overview

SSC GD Constable recruits candidates as constables into India’s Central Armed Police Forces — including BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, ITBP, and Assam Rifles (Rifleman GD) — as well as certain posts in the Secretariat Security Force. It is one of SSC’s largest recruitment drives by vacancy volume and requires only a Class 10 pass.

Eligibility

Candidates must have passed Class 10 (Matriculation) from a recognised board. The general age limit is typically 18 to 23 years as on the notification’s cut

off date, with standard government age relaxation on top: OBC +3 years, SC/ST +5 years, and further relaxation for specified categories per applicable norms. Candidates must also meet minimum physical standards (height and chest measurement, which vary by category, gender, and region) — check the current notification for exact figures.

Selection Process

Computer-Based Test → Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST) → Detailed Medical Examination → Document Verification → Final merit list.

Exam Pattern

SSC GD Constable begins with a single computer-based test (CBT) of objective, multiple-choice questions across General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi, with negative marking for wrong answers.

Candidates who qualify the CBT proceed to a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST), followed by a detailed medical examination.

Syllabus

General Intelligence & Reasoning: analogies, similarities & differences, spatial visualisation, and basic logical reasoning appropriate to a 10th-standard level.
General Knowledge & General Awareness: current affairs, history, geography, polity, and general science.
Elementary Mathematics: number systems, basic arithmetic, percentage, ratio, averages, and mensuration at a 10th-standard level.
English/Hindi: basic grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Salary & Career

SSC GD Constable posts are placed at Pay Level 3 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix. In-hand pay includes Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Travel Allowance, and other applicable allowances on top of basic pay, and varies by posting location and force.
